Parking right on Duval st can be a challenge to say the least, but if you take some time to check the side streets off of Duval, you’re likely to find a spot that is free. Something to make sure of before leaving your vehicle on a street that might seem to offer free parking with the absence of a meter, is ticket parking. Some streets in Old Town such as Whitehead St are popular for parking and utilize a ticketing permit system. Once you park, you’ll notice there is a machine near the intersection of Whitehead and Caroline st. You’ll need to put money into the machine or use your credit card in order to get a ticket or permit for parking. Otherwise you may find yourself with a ticket provided by the city, which is much more expensive ($25 the last time we got one). The main street of Duval provides easy access to Mallory Square, where you can enjoy the nightly Sunset festival. Parking can often be found on many smaller side streets off of Duval. Ticket parking is located throughout the region in many areas without meters. Streets like Whitehead use a ticketing permit system for parking. Near the corner of Whitehead and Caroline Street is a ticket machine for parking permits. The Duval Street is largely a bar and restaurant district, offering several options for food, entertainment and nightlife. The historic neighborhoods and architecture of Old Town are popular for biking and walking tours. Boat tours are also popular near Mallory Square. Eco tourism, arts and cultural diversity make up a large part of Key West’s identity. Many annual events are held in Key West too. Festivals, parades and conventions run throughout the year. The entire island is approximately four miles long and two miles wide. Located in Monroe County, it is just under 5 1/2 square miles in area.
