During a recent trip to Key West I had the opportunity to stay at theone of the top 10 best hotels on the island; Cypress House. This hotel is a former estate property which includes a Grand Conch Mansion built in 1895 and two classic Bahamian Conch style houses built in 1888. Located in the midst of old town, it is one block from Duval Street and great nightlife entertainment. A gated property, the Inn is tucked in a lushly tropical landscape where privacy and comfort are foremost.

As an Inn which is designated for adults, the entertainment and activities are adult oriented. For fun away from the Inn, I was within walking distance of the Margaritaville Cafe and Store, and the Crowne Plaza La Concha. To visit other sites of interest like the Tropic Cinema for a jazz concert or the San Carlos Theater for a concert or theatrical event, I found the Old Town Trolley to be extremely helpful and easy to use. Shopping at Old Town Key West was a great experience. I was close enough to where I was staying that I could walk back to my Inn whenever I wished to leave my purchases in my room.

During my visit I naturally wanted to visit the ocean. The Key West Historic Seaport is just a few blocks away from the Inn and was easily accessible walking. Higgs Beach and South Beach are both located at Old Town and are close by. If I wanted to enjoy the water and sun without walking, the Inn had a beautiful, private pool and a lap pool. A continental breakfast is served poolside daily with refreshments served by the pool all day.

The Half Shell Raw Bar is close enough to walk or bicycle to for dinner and Kermit’s Key Lime Shop for dessert. Several restaurants, shops and entertainment venues are nearby and easily found. The Hard Rock Cafe and Ernest Hemingway’s favorite hangout, the Sloppy Joe’s Bar are both especially great to visit for their food and entertainment.

As an older adult with grown children, I was not interested in staying at an Inn where children run rampant and are catered to. I preferred to stay where the environment’s dedicated to entertaining adults. This historic inn which caters to couples offers an afternoon social hour and a nightly mix-n-mingle for their guests. Doing the “Duval Crawl” of the evenings is an adventure the guests can participate in easily.

Key West at its best is offered to all who check in here. Whether looking for privacy, great shopping, excellent food, proximity to the ocean, wonderful concerts and theater, museums and churches to visit or adult companionship, the Cypress at Key West is at the center of it all. While they only have 22 guest rooms, either Queen or King rooms each designed for couples, the three historic 1800 conch style houses which comprise this inn offer architecture, peace, enjoyment, beauty and convenience to their guests.
